Blog Post Eight: Praying Mantis

Something magical happened the other day: for the very first time in my life, a praying mantis appeared at my window. I’ve never seen one up close before, and when it landed there, still, poised, almost regal, I instantly knew it was more than coincidence. Some encounters simply feel like messages, and this one carried that unmistakable weight.

The praying mantis has long been recognized as a spiritual symbol. Their very nature embodies patience, presence, and precision. They move only when it’s time, conserving their energy, trusting their instincts, and striking with perfect timing. Seeing one felt like a sacred nudge from the Universe: Slow down. Be still. Listen for the right moment before moving forward.

What struck me most was where it chose to land, right on the window. Windows are liminal spaces, thresholds between inner and outer worlds. They allow us to see out, but they also reflect what’s within. A mantis appearing there felt like an omen of perspective, a reminder to shift my gaze and notice the truths that sit just beyond my current frame of vision.

In many spiritual traditions, the praying mantis is seen as a messenger of clarity and alignment with higher guidance. Some even believe they carry whispers from ancestors and spirit guides. To me, it felt like an invitation to step out of the noise of daily life and return to stillness, to remember that answers often arrive in quiet, subtle ways.

So, what does it mean if a praying mantis appears at your window?

·      It may be a sign that you’re being asked to pause, reflect, and wait for divine timing.

·      It could be encouragement to see beyond the surface of things, to look through a new lens.

·      Or it might be a reminder that your guides are near, offering wisdom through unexpected channels.

For me, that tiny visitor was more than an insect, it was a visitation, a blessing, and a lesson in one. I walked away from the moment with a deeper trust that slowing down is not the same as losing progress.

In fact, it might be the most powerful way to move forward.

If you ever find a praying mantis at your window, don’t brush it off as random. Pause. Receive the message. Let it open your inner window to stillness, clarity, and guidance. Because sometimes the Universe speaks through wings and whispers, and the only requirement is that we notice.

Have you ever had a meaningful encounter with a praying mantis or another animal messenger? I’d love to hear you story, email at info@tamaraborbas.com.
